Crap, crap, crap. We had to cancel our contract, nothing permitted, didn't hold the value to be worth the risk. The owner was not willing to let us do a proper inspection, said we could not remove any subfloor or wall panels to investigate structure. We are not giving up of the Derelict Quonset Hut, just the property it's attached too. More to come. We will make this happen, we will find the right lot and make an offer on the DQH to move it where we need it. Sometimes the best laid plans crash hard, but we can't risk losing the little we have to invest and not even be able to live on, build on the property. Stay tuned...

Stumbling block
Quick update: we will need signed and sealed docs from an engineer to get this project rolling. I have been in touch with an expert, and he is helpful. We need to do some of our own research and his rate will be $120 an hour when we need him. Hopefully we can find out the manufacturer it will save a ton of headache. So who knows who was making Quonset hut in 1981?

Our offer was accepted, time to start planning!
The derelict Quonset hut is officially under contract. We close July 7th 2017. The adventure begins...
So this is a long time coming, we have dreamt many a day and night about homesteading. It's a small lot, only an acre, but far enough from the city so we'll get our starry nights, wildlife, and plenty of room for our own little oasis. Here is where we will teach our children the importance of hard work, quietude, and family.
We need to gut the entire building, nothing is permanent... especially when it has been abandoned in the desert for close to 10 years. It has septic, water and electric connections, and character. We'll need a lot of help, time to call in a lot of favors. We'll need a fair amount of cash, which is hard to come by in the lean times we are trying to claw our way out of. But, if everything aligns, we work hard, we sacrifice, we will be able to live a dream. At the end of the day, isn't that what we all want? Stay tuned...
